Meet Our Workforce Development Team

The Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) and its workforce development partners believe the economic success of a region is dependent on its ability to increase intellectual capacity.

With the start-up of new, high-technology value-added mining and energy projects, taconite plant expansions and small business growth across the Mesabi Range, experts say significant numbers of highly-trained workers are required in northeastern Minnesota over the next decade. Estimates are that 20,000 to 22,000 new workers are needed in northeastern Minnesota over the next 10 years to fill jobs due to new economic development projects, retirements and natural growth, according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

To provide high-quality training to those new workers, the IRRRB, Northeast Higher Education District (NHED) and regional industries have partnered in the implementation of a series of innovative, new secondary and post-secondary educational programs tailored to meet the workforce requirements of existing and emerging industries.

Northeastern Minnesota is already well-known for having a hard working, dependable workforce. With support from the IRRRB, NHED’s five community and technical colleges and a broad range of industry partners, the strategy is to utilize the region’s educational and industrial assets in a coordinated, comprehensive team approach to create, retain and sustain a well-trained workforce that fits the needs of industry.
