Iron Range Higher Education Committee

Created by the 2008 Minnesota Legislature, the Iron Range Higher Education Committee advises the IRRRB commissioner on providing higher education programs to the Taconite Assistance Area.

The eight members of the Iron Range Higher Education Committee offer recommendations on the design of future higher education programs at Northeast Higher Education District colleges to the IRRRB commissioner.

Iron Range Higher Education Committee programs are funded by five cents of the Taconite Production Tax and placed into an Iron Range Higher Education Account. At normal taconite production levels, funds of approximately $1.8 million are available annually to support Iron Range Higher Education Committee programming recommendations.

Expenditures from the Iron Range Higher Education Account are subject to approval of the 13-member Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board.
