Governor's Committee on Minnesota's Mining Future

Created by Governor Tim Pawlenty in January 2004, the Governor's Committee on Minnesota's Mining Future was formed to advise the Governor on ways to strengthen and develop a sustainable mining and minerals industry in Minnesota. It served as a forum for discussion and evaluation of governmental policies that affect the mining and minerals industry. The committee was asked to develop and provide advice on public policy strategies aimed at stabilizing and enhancing the growth of the mining and minerals industry, retaining and creating mining-related employment, sustaining the viability of Minnesota's mining and minerals industry in the global marketplace, promoting innovation and the development of new technologies.

The major work product of the committee is a written report that identifies a comprehensive strategy for implementing recommendations that it developed. This report was prepared and submitted to the Governor in September, 2004 and it identifies four goals, five strategies and nineteen recommendations.

In October 2008, a supplement was prepared to present the status of the efforts to implement and accomplish the nineteen recommendations.
