Meet Our Community Development Team
The IRRRB’s Community Development Team responds to the needs of communities by working with our network of partners to help build strong vibrant communities and create jobs.
Grants for public works projects, infrastructure development and redevelopment are available to 50 cities and 139 townships within the IRRRB’s Taconite Assistance Area. Culture and Tourism grants support the region’s quality of life.
Beyond community and non-profit grant making, the division’s Mining and Reclamation program offers a suite of mining programs designed to stimulate capital investment, research, and the development of new technologies at mining facilities.
The division’s Laurentian Vision Partnership serves as a regional facilitator in promoting and planning sustainable mining practices and the reshaping of mineland for productive uses.
To assist communities and strategically utilize the region’s locally available natural resources, the Community Development Division is leader in the development and implementation of renewable energy projects in northeastern Minnesota, notably in Community-Based Energy Development (C-BED).
