Northeastern Minnesota Community Development Grant Programs

IRRRB's grant programs support economic activity within the Taconite Assistance Area by enriching and expanding the unique resources of Iron Range communities. A variety of grants are available to local units of government and nonprofits that promote sustainable communities.

In FY 2010, IRRRB invested more than $7.37 million in grants for business and community development.  The $7.37 million leveraged more than $58.2 million in total project expenditures.

Since the agency’s community development program began in the late 1970s, the IRRRB has provided $523.6 million for community development projects within the Taconite Assistance area.  The agency has invested $19.7 million for the construction of more than 2200 housing units valued at over $385 million.  In addition, the agency has invested $19.8 million for the construction of 37 industrial parks which leveraged hundreds of millions in private investments.
